Aussie Deaf Kids began in February 2001, when Ann Porter started an online support group for parents of children with hearing loss, called Parents of Hearing Impaired and Deaf Children in Australia (PHIDCOZ). Later that year, members of the group decided a website would help reach more families. A parent suggested the name Aussie Deaf Kids and created the first website linked to the group.
To expand on this foundation, Aussie Deaf Kids Ltd. was formally established in September 2007 as a company limited by guarantee. The aim was to provide an independent, reliable online resource where families could access meaningful and accurate information to help them make informed decisions about raising their child with hearing loss, and improve outcomes for both children and their families.
